Traded in for this today, it has a pretty high relief but doesn't show it in the pic. Was a bit shinny to snap a good shot with my set up. Looks great and hand, and has a nice portrait to look at.

Severus Alexander Denarius. IMP C M AVR SEV ALEXAND AVG, laureate draped bust right / PAX AVG, Pax advancing left, holding branch and sceptre. RSC 187. RIC 168

Dam quarters wont be worth anything, too many.

A friend of mine from australia collected them then when she moved she sent them to me and a ton of world coins with some silver. Needless to say the quarters went quick. Like you it paid for an ancient :D

They hand sentimental value, some being from family and friends, but the way I look at it is that that value transfered to the denarius :)

Nice one Randy. I find relief the one major shortcoming when buying from pics. I saw a coin that looked ok on an auction once, described as high relief. I was able to see them in hand a month later before the sale and MAN!. This coins relief was as much as the coin was thick! Its was utterly amazing, and I would have never known just from pics.

Someone needs to invent a 3d download of items to really appreciate some of them.

Yeah, I understand about sentimental value. I unloaded alot of my wheatbacks and ugly morgans from my grandfather when I got back into collecting. But they went to other u.s. coins I am happy to own.

As for relief, I find alot of Sev. A. portrait very high in relief, both of mine are, especially on the one thats porous and a lousy 2.1g.

But thats what attracted me to ancients too.

Darn washingtons are nearly flat anymore :/

Yeah, I am somewhat finding myself liking early washington's now, with their nice high relief. In ultra low relief I find all presidential portraits more like caricatures. First time I saw the ultra low relief quarter I thought it was monopoly money. :(

The new parks quarters a bit nice looking than then state quarters, but yet the older ones are much nicer.
