I really had little interest in getting a common denari, but with them getting harder to find under $30, I had to pick this one up. I saw this pretty nice portrait for $20 (obviously not from a ancient coin dealer) and picked it up. I can always use is to turn it around for something else I want. http://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-66140 stainless
The reverse is LIBERALITAS AVG V Liberalitas standing left holding caduceus and cornucopia with globe at feet.
Yup, ditto. I just haven't attributed it because it wont be in my collection to long hopefully. stainless
I'm going to try to get $30-35 out of it. That, or trade it for something else that fits my collecting needs. stainless
Unfortunatly, yes. I sold the almost all of my collection with the exception of a Galienus, some Chinese, and a few other coins I couldn't rid of because of sentimental value due to financial reasons. I'm back now and I'm going to get my collection back up. I'll get it where I want it and it'll look better than my old one. stainless
Sorry to hear that I still have your Septimius Severus RESTITVTOR VRBIS that I got from you last year. Its pretty much the coin that started it all with me moving to ancients. Ive learned alot & spent alot, lol. But I find it way more fun then U.S. or World, even though I still dabble in those. I just havent enjoyed U.S. since getting back into collecting in 09. Dont like the slabs & the prices attached to them. Its bad enough I am trying to build my U.S. type set up from buying problems as a kid with a $7 a week allowance. But its good to have you have back and good luck on rebuilding your set.
Thanks mat. It's nice to hear that you started basically with that coin. I remember that one, and it was a beautiful portrait. Looks like you've expanded from that majorly (that Caracalla is simply drool worthy). Ancients, I feel, are far cooler than US and World coins simply because of their age, history, and in my opinion, the art work is fantastic. These are literally works of art, something that most modern coins lack. stainless
I like the Caracalla too, but my favorite is probably the Augustus Geta. One of the few true ebay bargains I got, well next to the other coin I am awaiting on from Spain. I know you liked my Gallienus also. Most seem to for some reason, I guess due to the crap silver he usually seems to have. Another cheapy. But I agree about ancients. I scratch my head at U.S. collectors who will drop thousands on a particular coin with a die crack due to a die variety or something. I respect they can spot them on a whim, I just get a mental block when I try and study Overtons, Sheldons and so on.
Oh I agree, lol. I only buy US coins if I think I can make a quick buck, no real passion there for me. And yes, that Geta is a beauty too! stainles
Im so not a fan of the royals. Sick of the media attention they get, even during the Diana years. Hate how she died just for a stupid pic. Like we didnt have enough of her. Damn Media.... As for the art on that coin, its pretty bad. Kate isnt a bad looking lady but the portrait of her on that is horrid.
