Hi all, I had the opportunity recently to buy a set of walking liberty halves, less the 1921. He wanted $900 for it. I would say that for the most part they would grade between F(12) and VF(20). The 1921D looked like it had been cleaned in the past as it was clean, but lacked any luster and just had an overall dull appearance. Not sure how other to describe it. What would be a fair price? Thanks!
If as described, I think it would be a fair price. But look carefully at both surfaces, and that the coin in the slot is the correct one. If it is for your own collection, ask yourself if it is pleasing to your eye. The 21 D, 38D, and 16PDS would be the ones to evaluate carefully. Jim
Thanks Jim. I ended up passing. The 21D looked cleaned as I mentioned and just didn't look right. The 38D looked OK F-VF but the 16 series didn't quite make those grades. There's always more opportunities.
A coin show dealer has a nice complete set in Dansco album for $1,200. But it hasn't been purchased yet. A set minus the 21-P is maybe worth $800 to $900. It seems like $1,200 is what they are asking for a complete set. That's if there are no damaged or AG coins. All coins must grade at least G-4 with the newer coins at least AU. All I need is the 1921-D to complete my set. That's a bugger to find. Almost bought one in G+ for $360. Looks like I need to spend $400 for an acceptable 1921-D. So deduct the $400 from $1,200 and my set minus the 21-D should be worth $800.
