Finally got a decent coin of Julia Domna, now to get a decent imperial of Geta to replace the crummy one to have this set of Severus' family complete (please forgive the misspelling of "Severus" in the title, I slip up that way often!). It is fitting though that my Geta is in such poor shape, considering the poor kid suffered "damnatio memoriae" to wipe his brother from history.

Thought I'd share the happy family since I need to post more over here. :smile

    Drusus,

LOL, we're both looking at the same Geta!:) I have several in that price range in my wish list. I have a supreme Elagabalus on the way too, and recently got a fine deal on Plautilla as well. I need some decent coins of the other Julias to replace some rather crude ones filling spots in the collection.

That is a wonderful Caracalla kid!

Those are stunning pieces and make my small collection of ancients look like Couch Change. Thanks for posting pictures of them.

My Elegabalus Tetradrachm. Nowhere as nice as the pieces you guys shared.

If that Geta doesnt sell in a few more months and I cant find a good Julian II or Alexander Severus with just the right portrait for 60 dollars or less by then I am going to buy that Geta...its so nice...thats why I hesitated on posting it...I still want to buy it but I figured why be petty :)

Bonedigger, I think that is a great Elegabalus Tetradrachm. They just have a different, more stylized style.

I always love this family portrait:

Although I admit its horrible to kill your own brother, I have read a lot about this family and Geta was not much younger than Caracalla (1 year) when he was killed, and he was killed before many coins with his older portrait could be minted thus we see so many sweet child portraits of Geta (as you will see of caracalla as well) so we tend to think of him as being ruthlessly cut down as a child by caracalla who looks very rough and mean in later coin portraits...but Geta was like 21? when he was killed and the 2 brothers did not get along and did not want to share power, Geta just as much as Caracalla...it just so happens Caracalla got him first...I doubt Geta was a innocent young man who was simply killed by his evil brother....they were equals in power after their fathers death and they both wanted all the power thus they split into camps and BOTH rfused to work with the other....Geta would have killed Caracalla IMO but fail to do so before his own death. If he had we would all be looking at young caracalla coins saying that poor young child cut down by his evil brother Geta :)
