I have read an article on Where's George? (as I said on another thread) that Secretary of the Treasury, Timothy F. Geithner, likely will not seek another term if Obama is reelected, and if a Republican nominee beats Obama, there would motre than likely be a new Secrtary of the Treasury anyway, so, the question is, Will we see Series 2012, or Series 1013, or perhaps even Series 2014, one of which series dates may kick off the next round of currency redesigns?----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I have talked with the vending industry about whether or not they are going to have to do a major over haul on their machines, because I wanted to ask them about making all of their future generation machines accept $2 bills, and change the coin changer's size on the newly designed machines to take halves. The lady told me that "They don't usually see that many $2 bills, and almost never see halves" and I told her "Yes, I know, but the problem with the circulation of the $2 bill is that, not all vending machines accept them, and although most self checkouts accept $2 bills, they do not dispense them as needed, and as for the half, there are virtually no machines that I know of, that take halves, and although the coins fit comfortably in the self checkout machine's coin slot, the machine just rejects them. So its up to vendors and self checkout companies to program and retool their machines to accept and dispense these two denominations, just like any other denomination" and the lady did say that there is talk of making the U.S. currency denominations different sizes, like some other countries do, which may be interesting, but this is why I say, if you are going to have to make COMPLETELY new machines to accept different sized bills, why not make them so that they accept ALL denominations of U.S. coins and currency, instead of leaving the "odd" denominations out? They would soon become "normal" money if they were dispensed to the public by machines. This is IF they have to completely replace their coin and bill acceptor machines with new models though. And I will be calling my local stores' self checkout dealers to see if they will need to completely replace their machines, to urge them to add half dollar acceptance and dispensing, and $2 bill acceptance and dispensing.
