After my votive coins of Constantine that I posted recently I thought I would share this other new arrival.

    Septimius Severus denarius
Obv:– L S-EPT SEV AVG IMP XI PART MAX, Laureate head right
Rev:– VOTIS DECENNALIBVS, Septimius, togate and veiled, standing left sacrificing over tripod
    Minted in Laodicea-ad-Mare. A.D. 202
Reference:– RIC IV 519; BMCRE 680; RSC 796. 2 examples in RD so relatively scarce.

D of DECENNALIBVS corrected from B or E

Minted to commemorate Septimius' decennalian vows in 202 AD.

Terrific coin!!! Great surface and strike!! I wonder how much time Severus' 'body servant' spent on his hair and beard ...LOL

Hmmmm, maybe I do have a couple more examples of votive-coins, other than my Arcadius? (I'll have to go check 'em out)

I don't have any votive coins of Severus, but I do have this emperor-sacrificing reverse theme on an ant of Gordian III...
