    This is a typical late period Rome mint denarius. Septimius was emperor for a long time. In the early years, his foreign wars resulted in branch mints away from Rome and specialists like me tend to prefer those coins. Issues of the later years were all from Rome and tend to get ignored despite their good workmanship unless they are one of the very special reverses. I specialize in Septimius but easily 95% of my coins are from 193 to 196 AD and only a handful have the curled beard like yours. There are just so many that we all need to decide which we prefer.
