    Septimius Severus Nikopolis - Copy.jpg
This coin is 27mm and weighs 12.16 grams
I believe it is from Nikopolis in Moesia Inferior
I'm pretty sure that is Herakles with his club but I'm not sure about the legends. Any assist would be nice.

Beautiful coin! The obverse inscription is AV A CEΠTI CEVHPOS. On the reverse I see NIKOΠOΛITΩN, so definitely Nikopolis. I suppose I've got to look it up now.

The reverse reads VΠ AV ΓAΛΛOV NIKOΠOΛITΩN counterclockwise from 7.
ΠPOS I is in exergue. Varbanov 2613. Herakles is holding a lion skin also.

This is the only coin I've won on a FORVM ancients auction.

Greek language, Greek spelling, but some Roman letters get mixed into the provincials, ie. C instead of Σ.

It's a very nice example of the type.

Hey JBG, after thumbing-through my collection I discovered that I have a cool addition from around the same time, same place ... enjoy, my friend ...

    Plautilla, AE-26. Nicopolis, Moesia
    Augusta AD 202 – 205
    13.33g. 26mm.
Obverse: Plautilla, the wife of Caracalla (Her draped bust right)
Reverse: Eagle standing front on globe, head right, wreath in beak
    Reference: Moushmoff 1159; Pick 1636; Varbanov 3174

Oh, and this is also an Ancient-Coin-Trivia-Flashback!!

=> this was the last coin that I posted and apparently the final-straw that got me kicked-out of the CCF (I posted this coin and a photo of Marvin, from the Simpsons, picking his nose) ...

... a dangerous combination, my friends!!

Are you sure it was Marvin?

    Or was it the goat?

Ahahah (*whateva*) => you and your urban legends ... Bing, how quickly you forget the "real" story ... brutal dude, you were there!! (front-line)

Sure, everybody knows that I got kicked-out for posting that good ol' PAN f-ing the goat statue (ummm, actually a classic work of art!!) ... but after that month-suspension, I was let back-in the mix ...

Then there was a series of me being kicked-out for not following the "photo posting rules" ...... they told me that my photos were too large and that I should use photo-bucket (remember?)

... so I tried to use photobucket (epic fail) and was again, reprimanded for photos ... and eventually, I was merely kicked-out because I didn't have the computer skills to make my photos "smaller" (and Marvin was the final straw, where the guy decided I was trying to buck the system) ...

... good enough (it brings me back to a bad time, where dudes were trying to show their power over an innocent ancient coin-dude, with zero computer skills) ...

amazingly, you and Doug pointed me towards "cointalk" and I've never looked back ....

I act exactly the same on this sweet coin site, but for whatever reason this site seems to kinda like me, rather than accuse me of being a threat to the youngins' and/or some sort of degenerate!!?

I think not. It is a classic piece of art, but why take the chance. I'm sorry I brought up bad memories little brother. Just don't eat the boogers!

If "booger eating"doesn't trip some alarm I wonder what will? I have an urge to sign up on CCF to see how fast I can get booted.

These last few posts have made my day! Good work gents!!

We had an entire thread of Priapus coins going and they didn't kick us out. I think the mods just shake their heads at us and click elsewhere.

Good looking coins, I have a weakness for large size coins.

Steve I don't think anyone knew how to post pics on CCF. It either was too big or it never appears lol.
