Hello everyone. I’m new to this forum but have been collecting for a while. One of the September 11 commemorative medals that I recently received seems to be an error coin, and I was just wondering what people’s thoughts about it are, or what type of error it might be? The error makes it look as if the eagle has been shot just below its wing. I didn’t want to take up too much space with this post by uploading too many images, so I’m attaching one picture here plus a link to a page where you can see the coin in much more detail. Thanks for any ideas about its significance, rarity, value, etc. Follow this link to see additional photographs in much greater detail.
Interesting coin but my guess is that it wouldn't be worth anything over the mint pricing. I only say that because it is apparent from the online coin forums that the design was a flop. The sales reports from the mint prove its lack of popularity. That being said, I bought one from each mint despite the poor design.
Low demand, low mintage - makes for an overlooked design in the future. I bought the W version myself, and I like it.
Interesting, looks like it was struck thru something or another. Probably would add some extra value to the coin. How much though, I wouldn't hazard a guess.
Yep looks like a strike through. Very low significance, no premium value, may even bring the value down. Medal collectors are a small market, error medal collectors are a much smaller market.
