What would be the safest way to send a coin w/o using a holder. like should i just stuff a bunch of Styrofoam in there or what?

I guess since a holder would be best, where can i get one, do they come in like denomination sizes?

Yes - use a holder, even if it is just a 2x2 or coin flip. You can find them for sale at any coin shop. Or if you don't have one near you, you can buy them on-line easy enough. Here is a link to an on-line site with good prices - Click Here

For just sending, a PVC flip is pretty cheap and easy on the coins, too, as long as the recipient knows to transfer the coin out of the flip when it arrives. Most of the coins I send people are in Air-Tites, though, because I’m sending what I think may become keepsakes to people who are not familiar with coin storage. I put the Air-Tite or flip in a corrugated cardboard sleeve sold by the various coin accessory shops. These sleeves have a light coating of adhesive on one side. You fold them in half with the coins inside, and they are sized for standard envelope sizes.

One more thing: if the coin is in an Air-Tite holder, I put the holders in a small coin envelope before I put it inside the cardboard sleeve. I do this to keep the sleeve adhesive off the holder. With a flip I wouldn’t bother.

I dunno 'bout that; I've never submitted coins to a grading service. I think there have been threads here in the past on that subject, and within the last couple weeks. You can probably do a search.

Each company has specific instructions for submitting coins to be graded - that includes what kind of holder to use. Just check their web sites - it's there.
