    Got myself this coin, which I haven't received yet. Hope I don't jinx it. I just like depictions of the Senate on coins :cool:and research places I had never heard of.

    From Tabala, a village near the river Hermus, known only from coins; it was essentially a village, but minted its own coinage.
    Cities in Asia were part of a senatorial province and consequently wanted to advertise this status and to display this aspect of their relationship with the Roman senate by placing representations of the personified senate on coins.

    Pseudo-autonomous civic coinage
    Æ 22, Lydia, Tabala, 138 – 192 AD, Antonine Era
    22 mm, 5.56 g, 5h
    RPC IV.2, 9941(temporary); SNG Copenhagen 562; Hochard 2348d, pl. 137;
    GRPC Lydia 6; SNG von Aulock 3190

    From the Clive Foss Collection formed from the 1950's through 1980's.

    Ob.: IEPA CYNKΛHTOC, draped bare-headed bust of the Senate to right
    Rev.: TABAΛEΩN EΡMOC, River-god Hermos reclining to left, holding reed and cornucopia, resting elbow on urn from which water flows.

    Please share your coins from Tabala or Lydia or Senate or anything relevant.

    I do like collecting coins that were in the collections of numismatic authors, but I don't have any Clive Foss's yet. (I've noticed some at CNG recently.) Or his books. I was aware of his Arab-Byzantine book(s), but not Roman Historical Coins, suggested by Victor C above. That one looks like a good start.

    Very nice coin of Grimenothyrae. That's a city you don't find very often. I'll have to check my spreadsheet on Men top sees if I have that city listed.
