Hello All: Ive been going through My (19 yrs. of saving) one cent coins and ran across this one that the date is partially there, meaning the first two digits, but not strong at all, you can feel them with your finger nail. Now on to the last two, you can see them but not feel them it is a 1996. I was reading in the red book that sometimes the die get filled up and could cause this, in holding the coin in the light they appear to be raised, the best way to explain it kind of looks like they are raised from the back side of the coin and some of "liberty" can not be felt either Is there anybody out there that could shed some light on this subject? I am trying to post photos but having some trouble, if there is anyother way to grt them up I'll try I got one up, but have more that I coulnd'nt Thanks Johndo
That's about all there is to it. Dirt, grease etc can fill the recesses of the die ( in this case the area where the date is ) so that when the coin is struck metal cannot properly those same recesses and you end up with a coin that is missing part of the devices.
