I was looking around at different coin shops pricing to sell and this one coin shop in particular only would offer $225 for each Indian head $2.5 even being graded. so I have some common dates for sale and they wanted $225 for each listed below 1910 PCGS XF-45 1911 PCGS AU-53 1914-D PCGS MS-61 1925-D PCGS MS-62 1926 PCGS MS-63 1927 PCGS MS-62 1928 PCGS MS-62 I have better offers from other shops but I was shocked at how low they went. Is this fairly common? I can sell way better on eBay even with fees and shipping. What do you guys think?
The some guys in the coins shops are always looking for "the rip." That $225 offer is around the melt value and totally ridiculous or "unethical" for graded coins. As one dealer I know, who had a bad day at poorly run coin show said, "I could have set up in the parking lot and done better."
Well, now you know whether to trust them the next time you have something to sell and aren't sure of its value. Be sure to tell all your friends, too. In fact, I kinda wish you'd name and shame them.
Many years ago I took a No Stars dime to a dealer, was “bid” at $200 to a dealer who put on one of those visors on to look at it. He offered me $25 for it. I passed and never bother with him again. Some dealers have no ethics, and you avoid them.
Unfortunately dealers trying to rip people off that are selling to them is a lot more common than it should be. There's a reason why so many people just use auction houses or eBay for selling. Look at Great Collections or just sell them yourself with offers like that and I probably wouldnt go back to that shop
Classifieds here should get you better results. Just looked on the bay and prices range. Actually some are bringing better money than I remember.
