I'm posting this link to a thread I would like Condor101's opinion on. I think I have an S-195 and others see an S-194. I tried to get better pictures, but the ones that were posted on eBay are better than mine. http://www.cointalk.com/t159157/ I think the fraction bar appears wider than struck due to wear, but the spike on the left stem and hints of the die crack on the reverse are sufficient for identification. The thing I think you can bring to the table is whether the spike, which I observe on all S-195's but is not mentioned in Breen or Sheldon as a known marker is or should be a marker. Are you aware of even an early die state without the spike?
One of these days people might even get his name right - it's Conder with an E Sorry Marhsal, devil made me say it And yes, I misspelled yours on purpose
That's perfectly alright. I misspell my own name on occasion. Marshal ps That's how my daughter has my name engraved on my bible.
S-195. For me the key is the right stem. If you note where the ribbon and the wreath separate, on the S-195 the right stem sprouts almost exactly from where the ribbon and the wreath separate. On the S-194 it begins lower down on the ribbon. This means the shape of the area bounded by the leaf stem, wreath, and wreath stem is more open and "bulky" on the S-194 than it is on the S-195 where it almost comes to a point where the stem and wreath come together. Thank You! Now I'm seeing the Right stem emerging from the junction of the ribbon and wreath and not further down the ribbon. So I think it confirms a S-195. But I may still be wishtributing. And after I took a second and third look at your response, I finally saw the first line where you agree. It's nice to get confirmation.
