As some of you may have seen this Note that I posted, it is sad to say that it has been spent out of desperation. I tried to hold on to it as long as possible, but it was just NOT cool enough. It was to go out with my medicine or spend it and I did!:arghh:
What I am getting at is that every now and then a situation arises where we need money and to get it, we sell some or all of what we treasure as far numismatics go. Unfortunately, my wife's car needs Brakes all around (Rusty/ worn down), plus four new tires (dry-rotted) = $900!! ( $approx. $500 tires/$400). I'm going to negotiate that estimate some or try anyways. Do garages give senior discounts? I'm 55 now. Some restaurants and other places honor this age.
The main gist of this thread is that times are getting too tough. Not to sell something to make ends meet.:( It's just sad that things have to be like this. Then again, things could always be worse I guess.;)
Thanks for reading!! If you or someone you know that has a story like mine, please post.:)

At least you won't have to spend any cash to buy any wacky tabacky once those buds bloom.

The silver lining, should you choose to accept it ;)

I hear you. I'm in the same boat now. But, the bullion I have I put it away like a savings account. I hate to dip into it, but I'd rather do that than to put it on a high interest credit card or something. I have a strong feeling, things are going to get worse. We just need to stay strong and persevere.

@masterswimmer .I know, right!! It's the only thing that helps with my anxiety issues and mostly Pain though from having a Chronic illness. It's better than being hooked on in Pain Meds.( almost killed me- another story).
Thanks @jtlee321 ! I have a 1/2 oz. Gold Krug. and almost contemplating on selling but will hold off on as long as I can.
It's bad enough that I have to borrow the money.:(
Lastly, get this. The shop owner of Tire Country tells my wife that we can leave it there until Friday when we have the money. However, he says that 2 of his customers had their Catalytic convertors stolen and that it might NOT be safe. I'm like, Dude don't you have Insurance? Why should it be on me? Am I wrong?o_O

I would think that that should be on them. If they have possession of your vehicle, then it's their responsibility to keep it safe. But knowing these shops, they probably have you sign something that waives that.

You're 100% spot on. His lot, his insurance, his security, his responsibility. If not, how can you justify leaving any vehicle in his possession?

@masterswimmer , After my wife gave him a difficult time (like she does me), he says that he will try to garage it every night. Well, that's even more of a reason he should be responsible. He said the other cars were towed in while he was closed I believe.

Good on your wife. Don't let him shun responsibility for his business shortcomings.

And as far as the other towed in cars, if he towed them in or if another tow company that he has arrangements with to drop off towed in vehicles leaves them after hours, it should STILL be his responsibility. I don't imagine any towing company can just drop off a car without signing off on it. He's got to have some kind of agreement with them. That should put the onus on him for securing the safety of the vehicle.

All that being said, your insurance would still cover you. Unfortunately the deductible would be at risk. That's where his coverage should make you whole. Honestly though, he sounds like a shyster trying to shirk responsibility.

@masterswimmer, The thing is he is just up the street and I've been with him since 2001 or so. Mostly tires and small stuff. I wish we had time to look around but just didn't. He was pretty good to us I feel some years ago but lately he sounds a little off. Next time we shop around when something needs fixing like the exhaust. That's next on the list. All because she started working from home and the car sits more than before.

Your wife's got moxie. I like that. She sounds like a keeper.

I totally understand about sticking with a shop that has done me right over the years. I'm just as loyal as you it seems. However, in this day and age with supply chain issues, inflation, short staff, and all the rising costs of doing business, it has become paramount to do your due diligence. Gotta look out for #1. He is. So should you. It sucks, and it can be time consuming and quite frankly, it could be a futile attempt to save a buck, but you won't know how much you can save until you at least try.

Maybe that's because she works for a Law firm. It goes with the territory. Yes a keeper. I tell her that everyday and she just rolls her eyes.

I had a car stolen off the forecourt of the service centre. Fortunately I had the car insured, and claimed off the insurance company. Actually it was a happy release for me, and I got paid out. The car was found about 2 weeks after I was paid and definitely I didn't want it back.

Now take that sane logic you said and compare that to what we live in today where an unlicensed mechanic squashed another employee during an oil change and the family of the employee who was squashed sued the owner of the car who dropped it off.

    o_O <--- That's me!

Unfortunately with world events as they are these prices may even increase more.

Perhaps we need to try to work more with the sunrise/sunset. To save light and heat you can go to bed earlier, and get up with the sun.

Unleaded is approaching $10 now. It’s already over $7 in some states. Wasn’t that way when we were exporting oil. Now there’s a coincidence.
