So today my Cracker Jacks Sailor reached his home port of Baltimore! And as always Rob AKA Lord M sent a little something extra... Now this was a cashless trade that we agreed to ....I send him down a pkg....[not a pig] private joke...nor bbq....with some items for the swap and some for the monthly give a way . So Jack showed up...with a German friend a 1924 E 1 Pfenning. We all know Rob always is very giving always wanting to go the extra mile.... And you should know that Paddy always researches everything..... So I pull out the standard catalog of world coins and looks up the 1924 E pfenning Well I posted a image of the price guide.....have a look >>>>
Rob made an honest mistake. Send it to me and I'll make sure it is returned toot sweet! Once again @lordmarcovan wins the karma award. Kudos!
Looks to be an F Mint Mark.. it has a Die Chip on the bottom of the stem! Just kidding (I voted Don't tell Rob.. but the Lord sees everything!)
Awesome coin. One I would absolutely love to have. Thanks for sharing the coin. I would personally reach out and explain to the gifting person what you’ve got and ask them how they’d like to proceed. Most people don’t want to take gifts back, but appreciate being told what happened and also have the opportunity retrieve it back. You’ll make him feel good about himself and can always send him something nice. I voted the $100 certificate. The coin isn’t enough exactly worth those values since it’s damaged. This is just a cool historical piece.
That reichspfennig looks VF+ if not XF to me. Looks like just dirt in the devices. I don't see any damage? As is blatantly obvious, I did not look at the coin under a loupe and just had my reading glasses on when I stuck it in Paddy's package. Didn't check the mintmark and it wouldn't have meant anything to me anyway, since I didn't bother to look it up. I know "E" is a bit less common mintmark, but this coin type is generally common. There might be a few more in that box. Probably not 1924-E, though! It cost me less than a quarter since it was in a bulk bag. It is browner and more natural looking in hand, as I recall. Paddy's pix are kinda greenish looking. So a truly random grab into my "unsorted" box nets a key date, and I didn't even know it! Hilarious. It has happened before. And I have been on both sides of such cherrypicks. The karma all evens out. Wheel in the Sky keeps on turning. Oh- @Paddy54- please do NOT send me $100 worth of BBQ! I couldn't eat all that. I can think of several times I've been on the receiving end of a nice surprise myself, so hey, it's all good. Yeah, @Randy Abercrombie, I'm talking about you. But not just you. @dadams and @coin_nut and many more come to mind.
Here are my pix of the Cracker Jack sailor. He was carved on an 1879 Indian cent, which unfortunately has a rather rough obverse from an old mounting, but it is still a fun piece. I'm sure the sailor is contemporary to the 1870s. @coin_nut will recognize this piece as well. Ironically, he got it in a similar "accidental cherrypick" situation where I was doing random grabs for his Secret Santa package, and I had no idea it was a pictorial love token. I had it upside-down and thought it was a weird monogram and did not recognize the sailor carving for what it was! Ed did, and later sent the coin back to me in a gift lot. (I had sent him a handful of tokens and stuff for Secret Santa. We had each other as Secret Santa partners last year.) *Note to self- use your loupe and not just reading glasses when doing random grabs from your "unsorted" box.
The fact is that as soon as I opened the letter from Rob and discovered this I texted him. And for just about a half hour had an quite funny at time exchange of messages. I would never want to take advantage of anyone, especially a friend like Rob. His work here on this as well other forms speaks for itself... And yes I am a firm believer of Karma....both good and bad.... I will admit that as for myself I am a better giver than reciever...as again the golden rule...was well taught and learned growing up. I will be leaving on business this week so my down time at home is limited ,by rest assured between the 2 of us this will be worked out ....as what did Jiminy cricket teach us in his song? Thanks my Lord you are without a doupt 1 very "cool dude"
To bring everyone up to speed on the PIG and bbq....durring our texts I sent him a reply that his PKG should hit his mail box today Saturday . Of course Samsung great spell check program changed pkg.to pig! And of course that took our conversation is a totally different direction. And of course anything that contains bacon Rob is on board....
I've had more embarrassing autocorrects than that. When we evacuated from Hurricane Irma, a relative asked my mother about us. Mom replied "they have gone to Jesup", since we had evacuated to Jesup, Georgia (which is "Jes' up the road"). But Mom's phone autocorrected, and the message she actually sent our concerned kin was that we had "gone to Jesus", giving a rather different impression than intended.
