I was curious if anyone knew if the placement of the security thread on notes is variable or not. In the US, alot of the newer notes had a thread in very specific places. They do this to deter folks from bleaching the note and printing a higher denomination on the note. here is my issue - i have 2 Guyana notes, same denomination and by every accounts the same issue. The notes are undated, but carry all the same design markins that i can find - except the security thread placement. Take a walk through the krause with me for a minute. On page 423 of the 14 edition of the 1961-Present edition, you see both P-24 and P-27. Aside from the signature, the security thread is in a different location. On P-24, the thread is just behind the 'S' in Dollars, on P-27, if you lok REAL close, you can just make out the thread just to the left of the prefix A/87. on the two notes shown below, both with the same signatures, both have TDLR completely spelled out on the reverse (for those who dont know much about the Guyana issues, some notes have TLDR spelled out as 'Thomas Del La Rue & Company Limited', but some notes only have 'Del La Rue'. I dont know if this is common among all TDLR notes or not) and both notes are undated and have signature different then P-24, P-27 and P-30 (i assume sig 13). I see no differences between the 2 notes posted below except for the serials of course, and the placement of the security thread. The first note has the thread behind the S, and second note is to the left of the prefix. The threads in both have GUYANA repeating but alternating from one side of the thread to the other. Any thoughts?? any comments? and thanks!!
I don't know anything about Guyana notes specifically, but I don't think this degree of variation in the thread's position is surprising. If they were U.S. currency I'd call them perfectly normal.... The thread has a different location in each denomination, yes, but the position isn't precise down to the millimeter; the BEP's current presses don't allow for such perfect registration of the various printing operations.
thanks Numbers! I knew the US notes had different positions, but was under the impression the positions were closely placed. I guess some wiggle room is expected and needed. It just grabbed my eye because of all the $20 notes i have from Guyana, that is the only note even closely outside its placement when compared to all the rest.
