I always wanted to build a collection of these but never really had the funds. Show us what you have.
Not a great photo, but it was a dream coin for me as a kid and once I became an older adult & got back into coin collecting, a seated dollar was a top purchase.
Here's mine..... It would be an awesome achievement to build a set of these. Way out of my pocketbook range though.
Nice selection so far. I've been trying to work up to buying one for my US type set, but other coin stuff keeps getting in the way. Soon.
It amazes me when I look at the seated series the incredible volume of American history these pieces saw during the course of their run.
The only two I have - both in the Type Set. The 1859-O is a slider AU-58+. The 1871 is not one I would normally have gotten except that it came a really low price. One day I'll upgrade it.
There are two problems with collecting this series. The obvious one is cost. Anything in MS grade is quite expensive and the rarer issues are astronomical. The second one is that you can't really fall back on a mid-grade collecting target to keep the price down because there are quite a few dates/MMs that are much rarer in circulated grades than in MS grades. It's a really tough series to collect for just date/MM and it gets much, much tougher for the die marriage collector.
Yeah a set would be really tough. I thought of it too. But between the 51-2 the 4 Cc issues and the absolute dealbreaker 70-s. I said no way.
I have owned several. Got them at a nice price and made decent money selling them but still regret letting them go.
