I am trying to find out what folks are finding today in regards to searching peeny rolls they get from the bank. I am specifically targeting banks here. I just bought 4 rolls this week and found 25 percent (50) were 1981 or earlier coppers. Given the price of copper, one could say I got 5 rolls for the price of one or a 25 percent increase in value. I am saving those buggers because I know with the dollars decline, housing market decline and general economy problems, the feds are gonna start melting coins and selling the copper to pay off our national debt. Now maybe that is a long shot, but if they do, the pre-1981 coins are going to go up in value as the disappear from the market. I do not know what else I got in those rolls other than a couple 12950ish coins and a fair number of 60's (maybe half a dozen). I be more specific on the next few rolls and will post here. I would be interested in what other people are finding. Post your roll searches here please. Thanks. UncleKin
Here's my post from a few months ago about results of 200,000 cents searched: http://www.cointalk.org/showthread.php?t=26461
There is a lot more to look for than just the dates. Dates are secondary to what I look for when searching rolls, boxes or bags. No matter the date I look for any doubled dies, RPMs, errors etc. Car10's coin listed in this thread is a very good example of what you may find. I hope to see those show a significant premium. Most that make very many finds with the Lincoln cents are searching a lot of coins to find those few nice examples though. In my opinion, as always 2b1ask1
Searching through penny rolls is so much more satisfying than buying coins. Sorta like the difference between fishing in a private stocked pond and catching a trout out of public waters. There is so much more challenge in the public waters and when you get a big one, you feel more satisfaction because you it escaped all the other fishermen. The priveate catered waters do not give you that feeling. I am wondering where are the best places to look other than the bank. I can't afford a metal detector so just wondering what is the most productive methods for folks. And yes, I am fishing here. Ha.
