Whats going on? I just got skunked on my 2nd (in a row) box of halves. No 90%, no 40% no uincircs, just junk! I even ordered from a different bank who uses a different armored car company.
(Someone had searched this box and did not mark the rolls.)

I guess that the downside to 20.00 per oz silver - everyone wants in.

If you continue searching long enough you'll run into stretches where you'll go through 6 or 8 or 10 boxes and find nothing. I know, I've been there. I searched halves religiously for 3 years. My third year ended about 5 weeks ago and I'm taking a break until at least the fall.

My first year was by far and away the most rewarding. My last year yielded the least. I had a few good pulls in year 3, but they were just that- few. The key is consistency. Keep searching and work through the tough patches, even when the last thing you want to do is sort another roll of say 2001-Ds. I believe there is still a lot of silver out there to be found.

I started roll searching during the summer of 2006. I would buy $500 boxes from local banks. I hit the jackpot first time around...at least I thought. I found a mix of about 20, 90% and 40% Kennedy's with a few Walkers and Benjamines to boot. Then I went on a dry spell. My next round was the summer of 2007 and again I found about 20, 90% and 40% Kennedys with no Walkers or Benjamines. Then went on another dry spell. I picked it up again last month and my first box back into it I found about 20, 90% and 40% Kennedys and a few Benjamines. Since then, I have not found one silver! I know there are a lot of roll serchers around here, because everytime I hit the banks I hear,"Another guy was just in here and bought all the rolls!" I just returned a $500 box that I searched this week with no luck. I'll give it a break for a couple of weeks and give it a shot again.

you know i was searching then and i never found any silver halves then i went and looked into my common coin collection and there were ms 65 silver halves staring at me. wonder what gives. i guess i am not destined to be a roll searcher so i have given up.

I used to find about one silver half dollar for every three rolls seached. Then things dried up to the point where I just gave up roll searching altogether.

I wouldn't be too disappointed like said, I myself have found no silver searching rolls, but then again I 1. Don't roll search that much, and 2. I mostly search cent rolls or nickel rolls when I do. :D Lol, don't get discouraged, keep on searching! :thumb:

I think the original point has some plausibility. Talk to your tellers. Even they're recognizing silver at these prices.

I searched $260 in halves yesterday and pulled out 2 40% pieces. At one bank the teller told me when rolls come in they search them and buy up the silvers. That's pretty crazy.. I think I should get a job at a bank but I'd get fired for spending my lunch breaks in the vault.

If you can get a sealed box then do it up.

Remember people.. silver coins are more then just halves!

I got skunked on a $500 box last week also, if you do not count the 2005 and 2004 halves. Many of the coins were marked on the edge with a sharpie. I have searched about 20 boxes over the last three years and been skunked only 3 times. The previous box was in Jan 08 which only produced 2 40% halves.

My best was 2 1/2 years ago when I opened the box and saw two liberty bells facing me. I knew it was going to be a good day. That box produced 9 Franklins only 2 90% Kennedy's and 40 40% Kennedy's Since then I have never seen another Franklin.

I don't believe many more people then last year know the exact years that Kennedy Halves where 40% silver. IMO more people have been telling others that they can still be found in rolls at the banks. I see a lot of articles on websites revealing this secret.

i just started this but, i pick up 10 rolls and got nothing, but then i started stopping at the small little mom and pap stores and got 19 ikes, 1 1964 + 1967 kennedy, and a few sba's. for me thats pretty good for a start.

You have had better luck than me. After about $3,000 in halves I found 27 40%, 3 90% Kennedys, nothing earlier than 1964.
I have also found 4 full rolls of uncircs (clad) and a couple of proofs - one in good shape.
