So Ive recently taken on the rather daunting task of sifting through a large coffee can filled to the brim with pennies Fun! I have just been seperating pre-82 copper from newer and keeping an eye out for wheat backs in the process. Found a nice looking rather shiny 1950 and really beat up 1953 so far. Now I've poked around a bit, but are there any 'key' dates for pennies after '59? Anything after '82 I should keep an out for? Thanks, Adam
Good luck with your search! Look for the 1972, 1984, and 1995 Doubled Dies. Here is an interesting site for cent varities: Link: http://www.coppercoins.com/index1.php
I just had a coworker give me a big jar of Canadian pennies, with some nickels and dimes thrown in. I ended up finding about 5 or 6 wheats, about 100 or so Lincoln memorials, a couple of Geo VIs, and an 1893 shilling. The front side of it is almost completely obliterated, but the backside is certainly very readable. What that was doing in the jar, I'll never know, but the deal was, as long as I rolled everything else, I could keep anything interesting.
