I recently bought Sear's Roman Coins and Their Values volume V. I have RIC, so I didn't need it but thought it would be good to complete the set. To my surprise I found a coin I own as a plate coin: Sear worked with NFA for a while and many of his plate coins are ex NFA. This one was NFA auction XVI, Dec. 2, 1985, lot 547. AE24. 6.09 grams. HOC SIGNO VICTOR ERIS ("In this sign you will be victorious") Struck under Vetranio, March 25 - Dec. 25 350. This is an important early Christian type. For more on early Christian symbols on Roman coins, see http://augustuscoins.com/ed/Christian/ChristianSymbols.html RIC Siscia 282. Sear V 18203 this coin. This thread could go two ways. Show us early Christian symbols on coins, or show us plate coins!
I only have one plate coin from Sear Byzantine 1262 of Justinian II unless you count Late Roman Bronze Coins by Failmezger. Since he sold off his coins, I am certain I have more plate coins (about 130?) from that book than anyone. As I recall, there were several of yours there also. We won't show all of them, will we?

When Henry Clay Lindgren got up in years, he sold off his collection in a series of buy-or-bid sales by mail from his company, Antioch Associates. I purchased a few coins this way from him, including two plate coins from his first book.[1] Here are those: Domitia, Augusta AD 82-96. Roman Æ 17.3 mm, 3.15 gm, 7 h. Ionia, Smyrna. Valentinian, Nice score . The black & white photo in Sear's book shows more detail than your photos but there is no doubt your coin is #18203, the edge splits match up perfectly. I scored the follis pictured below, AD 300-303, many years before I bought the series of David Sear's ROMAN COINS AND THEIR VALUES. The coin is pictured in volume IV, page 111.
I won't trot out my umpteen Dattari and Dattari-Savio plate coins again but one is worth bringing up since the topic involves Sear's RCV. Recently, @Valentinian found that my Domitian Snake cowboy diobol, is a plate coin in Sear Vol. 1 (Sear RCV I 2868, page 511)! I don't have that book yet but should buy it. Meanwhile, could someone who owns the book send or post a picture of that page? To my knowledge it is my only Sear plate coin. The coin is also illustrated in Emmett... twice... which is very notable because there are so few coins illustrated in Emmett. The portrait is used for the beginning of the Domitian section and both sides of the coin are shown in a special inset about the type. EGYPT, Alexandria. Thanks, RC! The prices made me laugh. I paid a bit more than the value written at the time of that volume's publication .
In all fairness, the listing itself is for the horse galloping right, year 11 version. Maybe those are less pricey than yours.
I've showed this one to death, but since it's a Sear plate coin... MARK ANTONY AR Denarius. 3.61g, 17.8mm, Patrae (?) mint, autumn 32 - spring 31 BC. I thought I would check since I had my Varbanov books beside me. Not the same coin, but the same dies, I think.
Sweet coins, errbuddy! @Valentinian, I just want to say that your page on Christian symbols on ancient coins is one of my favourite webpages. I use it to build my wish list for my sub collection of Roman coins. Fabulous work! Erin

I have a Sear plate coin as well. It was unpedigreed when I purchased it and then I kept running into it: “The History and Coinage of the Roman Imperators” (page 242, coin number 394) “Gold Coins of the World” (page 41, 7th edition) “Ancient Coin Collecting III (page 43) and Ancient Coin Collecting (page 20)” by Wayne G Sayles, 2nd Edition "Julius Caesar and His Legacy" – (full page image on xv and as coin 23, published by NFA in 1991) “Leo Biaggi de Blasys’ Complete Collection of Roman Gold” Ex. Jameson Collection
I have a number of "plate coins" But this one is a bit of a mystery. It is number 718 in the book " Coins of the Seleukid Empire From the Collection of Arthur Houghton" Published by the ANS in 1983. (no 4) I bought it from a Canadian collector. What I would like to know is what auction did Houghton consign this coin to.
