I carried a few slabbed coins in my pocket yesterday and unfortunately I didn't realize how delicate these slabs are to scuffing. Anyways, no major scratched, but just more or less scuffing, but it is annoying, so does anyone know of anyway to sand this down a little or polish it so that the scuf marks will be minimized or hopefully eliminated? Thanks!

i would be very careful putting any chemical close to any rare coin and that ebay item doesnt look like it did much just different lighting so it looked like it did

Chances are very high that the stuff being sold on EBay is a form of jewelers rouge, which is often packaged and sold variously as a scratch remover for automobile paint or a "fix" for scratched CD/DVD discs; and does a reasonably good job in those incarnations.

Unless there is a break in the slab, allowing the compound to get through to the coin, its use should not harm your slabbed coins.

Why worry about the slab? Do you collect coins or slabs? Are you interested in selling it to someone who collects coins? ... slabs?

I use a product called PlastX by Meguiars. You can get it at the auto parts store and Walmart. Works like a champ, and a lot cheaper than the eBay offering. One bottle will last you a very, very long time. I know of collectors who have been using this product for many years without any ill-effect to the coin. Highly recommended..Mike
