I bought a NGC 67 1942 P nickel from eBay. I saw a line on the upper left of the reverse. The line seems to be on the coin, not on the slab. See the red arrow on the photo. Is this a scratch? Or is this a die break/ crack? Other images:
Is it raised, on the coin? If so then a die crack. If it is ressesed then it is probably a scratch, NGC is pretty tough on nickels, I doubt that it is a scratch.
Probably so, but not necessarily so. What I'm reminding you of is that any scratch on a coin produces an incuse line AND a raised line right beside it. So you have to look a little more closely to determine if both are there, or just the one. That said, if it is a die crack then there should be other examples of this coin that have the same feature. And if they exist I suspect they can found with some effort. It is also possible that the "thing" in question is a tiny piece of lint, fabric, some other material, that fell onto the coin and has remained there. In any event, close scrutiny with a loupe should determine exactly what it is.
I think it's too jagged to be a scratch. I'd guess die crack, struck through, or debris in the holder. But I mostly agree with @kanga.
have you search it up on the NGC verification site? If so, they take a picture and you can compare it as well.
