Have a Jefferson Nickel, came from an auction, wrapper is marked "Scored Edge" which it has all around the edge. cannot seem to find any information on this description anywhere.
Every now and then somebody runs across one of these. It's a coin where somebody put reeding on the edge of the coin post mint. Now that's assuming the scoring you're talking about runs vertically of course. If it doesn't, and it runs horizontally, then it's likely the result of the coin getting caught in a counting or rolling machine - something along those lines. But in any case it is always post mint.
This is probably a post mist coin, scratchs are vertical, and appear not to be man made, looks more like it was forced into or out of something. Would send pics if I could figure out how to do it.
Load a pic to your computer and save it. When you get into a new post, there is a small square icon in the post's toolbar to the right of the globe icon and to the left of the film icon. Click that and it will have a button at the bottom "upload files". Click that and find your picures, click load, and post.
Thanks for all your input. You have made this site a pleasure to go to. I do not know why someone would go to the trouble of trying to create a phony, but stranger things have happened. Will file this under "Dumb Trys". Thanks again for your great response.
They try to create a phony for the same reason anyone tries to fake anything - money ! There is always someone out there gullible enough to buy such things at outrageous prices.
