Hi all, Quick question. I've got the 9th edition of the above cited book. The book lists prices of all/most of paper money. The prices are charted according to grade. The columns are VF, CH CU and Gem CU. The abbreviations obviously mean Very Fine, Choice Crisp Uncirculated and Gem Uncirculated. Does anybody know the grade number that separates CH CU and Gem CU. I've got multiple graded bills at 63 EPQ, 64 EPQ and 65 EPQ. The grades are from PMG but I'm not sure how to understand which ones are CH CU and which ones, if any, are Gem CU. BTW, the bills are 1934C $5 silver certificates.
Thanks for the answers. One more question. One of the bills I received back is labelled incorrectly on the slab. There is no doubt that the bill is actually a 1934C $ SC narrow, but the slab claims that it is wide. I know error notes bring value, does a mistake by the grading company increase/decrease or have no effect on its value. Both of these bills have a front plate of 2031
The slab should say gem or choice uncirculated, right under the grade. Errors by grading companies are not particularly valuable. Some sellers have tried to capitalize on it. I haven't heard of any worthwhile returns.
They are very good about correcting errors and will cover the return shipping fees if you ask. Definitely worth getting it corrected.
Does anyone know what edition the book is up to? I believe my newest edition is 6th and I have lots of corrections written in my book. I really should get a new edition.
10th if I recall correctly. There won't be a new edition unfortunately. I believe Scott Lindquist is not going to be working on any new copies.
Could someone explain to me what I'm looking at? As you can see, I've got 3 graded consecutive 1934C $5 SC Narrow (pictured). I'm looking at the 9th edition of small-size paper money (as pictured) and it doesn't show any values. Does that mean the authors have not seen any sales of these #'s? Does the 10th edition have values?
Page 101 of the 10th edition of the SGSS US Paper Money show 1934C $5 Blue Seal - Narrow Face serial numbers Q09308501A-Q44496664A to be worth $50 VF, $225 CHCU, and $300 in GEM CU.
If anyone is interested, these bills will be up on ebay tonight (7/6) at about 10:30 PM for a 1 week auction under the name rbmcgee.
