Here are some goodies I got before this year has ended. First is a scarcer Roman Republic type. It is pretty rough and crystalized silver, but a cheap addition for me in an area I lack. Second is a very scarce reverse type for Aurelian I got from @Brian Bucklan. @Sallent got my other so I could get this. Heavily silvered so it is tough to get a pic with a cell phone. Cn. Egnatius Cn.f. Cn.n. Maxsumus. (76 B.C.) AR Denarius O: Diademed and draped bust of Libertas right; pileus to left. R: Roma and Venus standing facing, each holding a sceptre; rudder on prow on either side. Rome Mint 3.36g 20mm Crawford 391/3; Sydenham 787; Egnatia 2 Aurelian (270 - 275 A.D.) Æ(S) Antoninianus O: IMP C AVRELIANVS AVG, Radiate and cuirassed bust right. R: RESTITVTOR ORBIS, woman standing right, presenting wreath to Aurelian standing left, leaning on sceptre, suppliant captive between them. * Δ in exergue. 4.2mm 21mm RIC V-1, Cyzicus 349 var.
Very cool additions @Mat....and your photos look excellent to me I guess I'll throw in what appears to be my last purchase of the year. It seemed a better buy at my initial bid but still pretty cool at my final cost---a bit worn but i love the size style and reverse AE26 Tetrassarion of Septimius Severus 193-211 AD., Marcianopolis, Moesia Inferior - laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / Cybele (Kybele) seated left on a high-backed throne, patera in right hand, left arm resting on a Tympanon (drum), two lions at her sides (10.81 grams, 26/25 mm) Marcianopolis mint 198-209 AD., Moushmov 381, H&J Marcianopolis 6.14.31.11, Very fine, green patina, scarce. Reverse legend refers to Consular Legate (Governor) Julius Faustinianus
Here's an Aurelian to share, uncleaned hoard to boot: CONCORDIA MILITVM on the reverse, I believe, though it's hard to tell. Or I guess it could be a Sol type - ORIENS AVG
I really like the Aurelian... unusual portrait style and I don't think I've ever seen the reverse type before. I could only find 5 on acsearch. Rare and attractive... hard to beat!
NICE RR Denarius @Mat ! I like that issue, and yours has a great crack in . Mine is in the same condition as yours. Well circulated and captured into a well-loved collection. RR Egnatius Maxsumus 76 BCE Bust Libertas pileus behind- Roma Venus stndg cupid on shoulder Wolf Head Sear 326 Cr 391-3
