For those of you who scan their banknotes, I have an Epson V700 scanner. I have tried every mode and way that I can but it will not scan a banknote. A warning comes up and you can click on it and it takes you to a site that talks about illegal use of banknotes. I can get a preview scan but not the final scan. Is there a way around this?
One step further, Once youve scanned the notes you can transfer the Images to photobucket.com it,s free and easy to use
Care to share for those who have the same problem? The problem comes from an agreement among the central banks and printer/scanner manufacturers to prohibit scanning of paper money. Some models have software that will not let you scan paper money. Some do not. I have had no problem scanning and printing with my HP all-in-one printer/scanner/copier.
lettow, I found the seach after I asked the question but unfortunately I haven't found a solution after reading the thread on my problem by daggerjon. My daughter has a all in one HP so maybe I'll try it later. I guess the Epson problem never got solved.
I worked for a Copy Shop.. Kinko's.. when I was Young.. I ended up becoming a Xerox Specialist.. We had Machines that could print 100% perfect Bills in Black and White.. If you would take the same Bill to the Kodak Color Copiers I was told It would Lock up the Machine with a counterfeit warning and could ONLY be unlocked after a Tech was called. It scared me so I never tried.. but know that some system look a bit too close at what you may be doing.. BigBrother is ALWAYS watching.. The Kodak did do Food Stamps great.. ( I saw another Person make some.. before he was fired)
If you have access to an old scanner, you could be in luck. I don't know when scanners started having this capability, but it's been the past 5 years or so I suspect. Dave
HP's and Canon's seem to work. i have both and can scan banknotes at will. there is a known issue with Epson's GL
That's very interesting. Does anyone know what the scanner is sensing that prevents it from scanning? Platinum strips? Holographic images?
It is the fine lines I think that trigger it.. I do fine on my Modern Kodak Scanner.. I know that the rule was I had to enlarge the image 150% or reduce 50% for it to work at Kinkos Off topic a bit.. I had a guy come in.. about 1AM.. on a dark and foggy night.. He went to my Design dept. and asked my tech for a PERFECT copy of a card that had pulled from his pocket.. I was called over and the emp. asked if he was allowed to make a duplicate.. Note.. NOT a copy.. A Designed exact matching card.. .. The card was light Green.. What I can remember was it said something about Geneva convention rules and if this card is found on a Body to notify the US Embassy.. I remember reading it as a LICENSE TO KILL.. It scared me.. I said "Make the Card" and went right to my office and called the Secret Service here in Boise.. At 1 AM they were there in 5 min, It was FAST.. They walked in.. walked up to the guy.. asked to speak to him.. went outside to the guys car for a couple minutes.. came back in and said .. AND I QUOTE.. " Do WHATEVER he says.." .. Ah.. OK.... and went and locked myself in my office till he left.. LOL..
PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!! I'm working as I write with my daughters all in one HP 6380. It works flawlessly!!! Uploaded 2 dozen $1 FRN Star notes at Banknote Bank.
Sure, I'm curious, I might need it if my scanner ever breaks. And the bad guys already know it, if there exists a solution Dave
I haven't found any references to Eurion being the cause of scanner failures, though. Here's an interesting article on the subject - it appears to be quite a bit more complex. http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~sjm217/projects/currency/ Dave
I have a Lexmark scanner/copier/printer combo and it just scanned my one dollar silver certificate with no problems. However, my wife had a modern $10 bill and when I tried to scan it, it wouldn't work! Didn't lock up my scanner (thank God!), but the software prohibited the scan. Interesting... At least I can scan old bills.
I must be lucky...I have an Epson Perfection 4490 and it will scan anything I want. On my old computer I can even do slides and negatives, although that function does not work on my new computer.
Now THAT is cool! I printed a copy of the symbol from the Wikipedia page, and scanned it on my scanner with a $20 and $10, with the sections of the bills that Wikipedia shows to contain the Eurion. The scanner (Epson Perfection 2400) scanned it just fine, but I got this message on the screen in Photoshop when I tried to print the scanned image. (FYI, the web page that opens when you click the "Information" button on the Photoshop notice is here: http://www.rulesforuse.org/pub/index.php?lang=en .) Here's a screenshot of part of the scan preview: FYI, here's the actual EURion symbol. Pretty cool. Certainly there are ways to get around it, but I'm not lookin' for 'em!
Great info Bill, Iam not sure what problem other scanners have, But i have Always had HP,S and never encountered this one!!
