45k coin for 9k...counterfeit? Why not send it into a TPG and sell it for its true value? https://www.etsy.com/listing/598588182/1893-s-morgan-silver-dollar-au-about?ref=related-2
Never, EVER consider buying a rare coin raw on any site like this. I can tell you it's been cleaned also. This is accident waiting to happen. JMHO.
Anyone dumb enough to buy a raw coin like that — as well as buying any coin from Etsy — needs a reminder to breathe.
Here's another for 20K raw. Does show doubling at the date, but if this is the actual coin why was it not slabbed a long time ago. https://www.etsy.com/listing/451236...ns&ref=sr_gallery-1-20&organic_search_click=1
Where on earth did you come up with $45k being a realistic value? The mere notion is utterly ridiculous! There's only one obverse and two reverses known for the date/mint. An iPhone isn't the best tool for this purpose, but the date placement doesn't look bad and the mintmark placement strikes me as being close to reverse 1. I wouldn't stake my life on it, but neither scream red flag at this point. It would seem likely the coin is simply a trashed example someone is trying to pull over on someone, but this is a good example of why it's good to dig a little deeper instead of simply making assumptions.
The question that always should be asked with a raw coin of value. Some possible reasons: 1. It was submitted but didn’t grade for a multitude of reasons. 2. The owner knows it won’t grade for a multitude of reasons. 3. It’s a fake or altered coin.
Because it's not. You're right though. Upon first glance the date "doubling" doesn't look all that bad on this one, but I'm guessing anyone willing to drop $20k will look at the big picture. Thank goodness for small wonders....
another great one https://www.etsy.com/listing/650712123/error-2009-d-lincoln-bicentennial-penny?ref=related-1
Can't speak for the OP but it was a curiosity factor for me. After I saw enough of dumb I stopped being curious.
Perhaps it's because being open to any opportunity has the potential to pay off for those who genuinely know what they're doing? Oh, wait.... we're talking etsy here.
