I just happen to grab a few loose ones from the bank the other day.The 81 s I know isnt an error but then I just happen to look at the reverse of the other coin and the OF in United States OF American is almost missing. What would this be classified as? Thanks in advance for your replies.

  3. Hm, it could be PMD, or a filled die, maybe? We'd need pictures to tell though

  8. hm, it's kind of hard to tell. It looks like PMD, but I may be mistaken. Do you see a lot of wear around the "OF"?

  10. Hm, interesting. It looks to me like it was just heavily pressed by something. But I'd wait for a second opinion; I'm still sorta learning the world of coins.

Grease filled die which is typical.

I don't see it as an error, but just getting an 81-S is good since the 1981 dollars were not made or issued for circulation.
