My guess is that you would earn more interest from depositing them in a savings account than their "premium" value over a buck apiece, but then what do I know about SBAs[IMG]

It is not my place to tell someone what they should or should not collect. However, you asked the question.
In my opinion they are not worth the effort. Now silver dollars are another matter. Those are real dollars.

Keep all of the 1979-P "Near Date or Wide Rim" Variety and any 1981-S "Type II" Proofs that you may find and return the others to the Bank or spend them!

    No.

But it's always worth collecting things. Save the nicest of each different one you find. When you figure out what's scarce or rare then save all of those or trade them for other coins you need.

The typical SBA isn't going to be very desirable for many decades but there are a few that aren't often seen.

I would only savce high grade BU ones.

Or, save any of mine that you find in circulation. I counterstamped up a couple dozen showing SBA smoking a cigarette. I can't say they are worth a premium, but they are good for laugh when you show them to someone.

    Just spend them.

I am a car wash owner that dispenses dollar coins. I buy them at the bank in bricks of 1000. For the last three years or so I have been getting about 300 SBAs in each box. Trust me, they ain't gonna be worth saving for a looooonnnngggg time.

Save them and use them to pay for gas. Nothing like handing over $25 in dollar coins. ;)
