Big kev says. In 1970. The mint used Canadian coins To make U.S. quarters. Was the U S. Bying coins to make coins. Cheech
In 1970 a worker at the San Francisco mint put ONE 1941 Canadian quarter in the press and over struck it with proof Washington quarter dies. It was nothing official, just one worker creating a rarity for himself. (He or another worker also struck a 1970-S quarter over a 1900 Barber quarter.)
