Just got this one in. 1916 PCGS PR64BN (bn?? take the sunglasses off, grader) Pop 16-11 higher in BN

To put the rarity of this coin in perspective, PCGS has graded 9,211 1909 S VDB's Total number of 1916 Matte Proofs graded, 170. The *listed* mintage for the 16 proof is 1,050, allthough no one can say for sure if this amount was actually sold to collectors. Some may have remained unsold and were melted at the end of the year. Some mattes remained on dealers shelves for decades and many mattes were later 'spent' and lost in circulation.

Man, I don't know about red, but I don't see why it didn't make RB. I'd submit it again. That is yet another breathtaking example man, very stunning. :thumb: How many more left do you need?

    Phoenix

I agree - I think it should be RB. Very nice coin!

It is nice, and yes RB I am certain.

The Big Kahoona of the Mattes is the 1909 VDB. Its not that they are not out there...just no one is selling. there may be about 200 or so in existance, no one can agree on whether 420 or over 1000 were minted, but survival ratios among other mattes would indicate it may be closer to the higher number.

a pr66rd is up on heritage...it may break six figures.
