I took it with my phone, so it's lousy, but... I know a lot of you like to discuss the Dollar Coins and their effect (or lack of) on the vending machine business. But here's a coke machine that advertises the fact that they accept them,.
A dollar for a 20 oz coke, I wish. They need to advertize the dollar coins. Lots of folks have no clue...
In my area we have alot of Coke machines that were retrofitted during the Sacagawea craze of 2000. The slots will accept dollar coins, but the machines have been set to not accept them. There is a auto carwash up the street that gives change in dollar coins. Other than that, market usage is very limited here despite most coin op machines being able to accept them.
I saw one of those at the resort we stayed at on vacation, they also took dollar coins for game tokens. I think that the SBA's and presidential dollars will also work in any machine that takes dollar coins
MTA subway in NYC and New Jersey Transit both take and dispense dollar coins system wide in ticket machines. Local merchants hardly ever balk at accepting them for purchases, understanding that you probably got them from the subway, but they too gladly admire when you request the dollar coins in change to relieve them from you as they hardly ever try to foist them on customers unless they run out of paper singles.
I remember when a Coke cost a nickel and what an uproar there was when they went to 6 cents. (A 20% increase!) The Coke machines were retrofitted to accept a nickel plus a cent.
Good thing they weren't retrofitted to accept a dollar (coin or paper) WAY back then... who would have wanted 94¢ back.
I put those stickers on all the vending machines at my school! (I checked to make sure dollar coins worked in the machine first!)
Yeah, I was pretty pleased to see it. They should start putting them on all the machines... and... we should stop using the dollar bill (but that's another story).
Our machines at work have taken dollar coins for quite a few years. Never seen anyone use one in them, but I have gotten them as change from them. GUy
