Saw a guy pull out a 1811 Bust Half Dollar from his pocket today. * Coin was heavily worn...guessing maybe VG at most. * Polished to it's living daylights a/or Possibly plated. (It was really shiny given it's condition) * Guy claimed he kept it in his pocket for "luck" for about 30 years. * Briefly saw the back....looked like it had glue of some sort on it. If only the guy knew what it's worth....
Reminds me when I use to have Bulgarian 2 lev 1916 that i use to carry around it was my lucky coin, in Bulgaria where i was born they had this casino place but there is no age limit lol and i use to go there with 1 lev= 1 $ then i came out with like 30 lev's hehe , but i lost the coin or someone stole it off me... since then I've been trying to find 1 so i can buy it back until my mum realizes that I've lost it
It could have been damage anyway, or it's owner had enough money that the fun of carrying it outweighed it's value.
Well, if he keeps it for "luck", maybe he finds more than enough cash on the ground to purchase several of these cbhs?
That's probably how things like this happen. He either paid very little or was given the coin back in a time when its value was less. Besides, if the good luck lasted 30 years, he probably made a good decision.
It's better than the alternative. When you have good luck, it's best not to change what you are doing -- even if you don't believe in luck. Why take the chance?
