have been saving 1 roll of each new gold dollar president, are these going to be anything more then a $1, Looks to me that everyone is doing the same and there won't be any shortage of these in many year later, maybe better use of the money would to buy some nice slabed standing liberty quater in ms-64?? thoughts

Welcome to CT. Others may have different opinions but I would say the only money to be made on the Prez dollars is for the few rolls that sell out and then skyrocket on ebay because people are silly. All the other ones probably won't go up any. I think you're very correct in guessing that an older highgrade coin would appreciate in value more. That being said, don't bother collecting coins as an investment. Most of the time the coins you predicted to be profitable aren't and the ones you never expected are. You'll see much better returns on other investments.

I wouldn't save any of these rolls...
I am buying them from the mint, waiting for them to sell out, then flipping on ebay, and making a profit so I can buy the coins I actually want!
They are all high mintage, and won't ever be worth a whole lot unless in a MS69 or MS70 from what I've seen
I say just collect these like the state quarters, get one of each, or one of each mint, and place them in your folder, I don't think there is any need to be HOARDING the rolls of these

I've been doing the same thing. Here's my speculation, when about 3/4 done, their will be people wanting the old ones that missed out. I plan on selling at that time for a huge premium. I mean it is going to be enormous. With the proceeds, I'll buy the 16-D merc and the 09s vdb and 14-d pennies and complete both of those collections and have enough left over for several CC minted Morgans.

OK, yes, I am saving them for some reason and I do think that if you have a whole collection that ebay may be profitable.....it's speculative at best.

    #1) Welcome;

#2) They ain't GOLD! The mint started that with the 'golden' dollars program.

#3) Spend them or deposit them to your bank, better returns on your investments.

#4) you asked: "maybe better use of the money would to buy some nice slabed standing liberty quater in ms-64?" sure, a much better chance of having somethign worth while in the future.

#5) Stay away from the TV coin sales persons.

The other thing about it though, I'm buying a roll from the bank of each president, so I've not risked anything (other than the investment opportunity) paying for them at face. If I ever decide to not continue and there is no premium, I can just spend them.

But, when I get a premium for a BU roll of each president, then you'll all......OK, I was just dreaming there.......I really do see it as a no lose proposition...

They are fun to collect and should not be considered an investment. If you are not interested in collecting them I would suggest selling the rolls or spending them.

There is the possibility of an increase in value, ,look at the Illinois quarter rolls.

    Something like that

I have a roll of each "gold" Prez issue so far laid aside. Sounds like everyone else does, too.

Not a problem since I get them at face and only collect them as they show up at the local bank, BU. Heck, I still have a 1979 SBA roll....from 1979. Someday I may bust them open and look for the close date thingie.

Almost got some AIG/Enron issues, but didn't. Silly me.

Being a funny looking old retired long haired heavily bearded kinnda guy now, in clothes from Goodwill, the tellers are getting used to the fact my checks don't bounce. My current wife says I usually don't smell too bad.

I spend my searched coins and enjoy the search. Whats the down side of that?

Saw that thread title and thought, OH Wow, rolls of gold dollars, wonder what Type? ;);) I spent years finding ONE of each type I could afford for a type set.

OK my heart rate is back to normal. Whew. Buy what you like, as noted it is a speculative investment if you are looking to resell at a profit. That is probably best left to those with the experience. JMHO.
