While stopping for made in USA catnip (no, really) I wandered into the pawn shop next door and found two 1972 brown Ikes in the OGP for $12 each, and in the bullion section amongst the 1oz bars and various generic round 1 ounce "coins" was a US mint Lincoln proof commemorative. Looks perfect! Of course it had no packaging but was still in the capsule. I was happy to pay spot + $2.00 = $33.50. This was not a screaming deal as I paid for 1 ounce of silver while getting 0.77 ounces but I wasn't going to mention that fact less the 2012 Red Book on the counter be consulted, resulting in a price increase for sure. So I was pretty happy paying a bit over melt for the Ikes and getting the Lincoln for about what it cost in 1999. Didn't really care about the OGP as I will have it slabbed anyway, and the Lincoln is one of the few modern commems I didn't have. I never would have stopped at the pawn shop if Wal-Mart sold other-than-Chinese catnip. Go Wal-mart! Also, no sales tax here on coins. State or federal thing I dunno, but I like!
That's a pretty fine pickup......catnip included The Lincoln commem surprises me. I see 'em sold on ebay between $50-$60 with the OGP. Heck, you done fine.......
Cool find, not everyday you find good coins for a good price at a pawn shop. So whats the grade of the catnip?
Cool finds! I guess they did not know what they had in the Lincoln commemorative or it would have been priced higher. They probably paid somebody $15 for it though. :smile TC
