I need help. Yesterday, at a con show I was shown two coins, both 2005 P, "Satin Finish" certified by PCGS, MS 68. A Jefferson Bison nickel, and a Sacagawea $. I have now found listings for them in PCGS's web site, for values and in trends. Apparently these are sold by the mint in 2005 and again this year. Does anyone know anything about these? Were they sold as sets? How and when? Price, and especially mintage? They are listed in the Guide Book (Red Book) but not as sets, individuals coins. Thanks for any info. The Other Frank
The mint found it could frost a coin easier than sandblasting by applying acid to it so it decided to create more "matte" or "satin" finish coins. I'm waiting a few yewars to see the affect this has on coins, especially "proof" ones. Clinker
Since this is a new 'type' of finish (just as proofs are different from circulation strikes) will Dansco add this to the album? Should be interesting. Also, added income to the mint.
