I bought this coin on EBay for about $12.00. It was so strange looking I had to buy it. From what I can gather, it's a Sassanid coin from the 6th century. My coin:

Like I said, as near as I can tell, this is what it is. My next question, how can I find out what it's worth!??

KINGS OF SASSANIA - HORMIZD IV, AR silver drachm. Struck at Yazt, regnal year 11 (590 AD, the last year of his reign). Facing bust of Hormizd IV, head right, wearing crown with tassel to left and surmounted by crescent with |||: inside single dotted-border, crescent with stars at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock. Reverse - Fire altar with two attendants standing facing, wearing tall headgear, both hands on sword hilt, all inside single dotted-border. Large 21mm flan, 4.1g.

Again, it's based upon supply and demand. Although you might be able to find the rough estimate figure of how many exist, if the market demand for it is low, the value will be lower too.

But I think, for 12USD, you definately for a good buy there. :)

These are very common. I've heard of bags of uncirculated ones being disbursed over the years.

At $12, you got a good deal. I've seen VF examples sell for $20+ and EF for $40+.
