Sasanian Kings gold dinar

    This one I think a very special thing with impressive charism. For long time my eyes was catched on every such a coin at auction catalogues, but first time I have take this dinar at hands about half a year ago and it becomes one of my priority goals. And now it mine. This obverce die is in high relief and good style. A description for the coin I have take from the same obv./rev. dies dinar from CNG.

    SASANIAN KINGS. Šābuhr (Shahpur) I. AD 240-272. AV Dinar (7.43 g).
    Mint I ("Ctesiphon"). Phase Ib, circa AD 244-252/3. mzdysn bgy šhpwhry MRK'n MRK' 'yr'n MNW ctry MN yad'n in Pahlavi, bust right, wearing diadem and mural crown with korymbos / nwr 'zy (in Pahlavi) on left, šhp hry (in Pahlavi) on right, fire altar; flanked by two attendants wearing mural crowns; trace of taurus symbol on altar shaft. SNS type IIc/1b, style A, indeterminate group; Göbl type I/1; Saeedi AV9 var. (no taurus symbol on shaft); Sunrise –. EF, hint of deposits and die rust on obverse, flan slightly wavy. Rare.

    A superb OP coin @I_v_a_n , may I ask where you bought it? I have no Sasanian gold (or lead), but I do have most of the kings in silver and some in bronze. Here's an obol of the first Sasanian king, Ardashir I, from before he took the title of Shahenshah and was still known as Ardashir V of Persis. Note his ancestor (father? grandfather? there seems to be some confusion) Papak on the reverse:

    Stunning! I one day dream of owning one of these - but alas the budget is spread far too thin!
