Anybody have any new info on the San Fran Mint Commemorative coins or the American Legacy Set release dates or coin designs. I haven't heard anything since Pres. Bush signed the bill. I can't wait!:mouth:
I don't know the status of the San Francisco (earthquake) commemorative coins. I saw some proposed designs in Coin World or Numismatic News. As I remember, one had a reverse like a Morgan dollar reverse, and another was like the reverse of a $5 Liberty (Coronet) half eagle. But I'm still dismayed that the Mint made nothing for the 100th anniversary of the Denver Mint this year. So I went ahead and made my own Denver Mint Centennial medal/token
Very impressive!! I'd buy a silver and gold one if the U. S. Mint would issue them. Just curious: Did you participate in the Colorado State Quarter design contest?
Thanks, I minted my Denver Mint Centennial medals (tokens) in brass, silver, gold, and palladium. I did participate in the Colorado "design contest", although it really wasn't a design contest because no artwork sent to the state would ever be forwarded to the US Mint (the US Mint's policy is to never accept any artwork from outside the Mint). But I prepared 7 different designs anyway and I delivered them to the Governor's office. Of the five themes that Colorado sent to the Mint (in narrative form only), one could have been based on my submission of a 10th Mountain Division design. The Mint prepared drawings of the five themes and sent them back to Colorado for review. The public was allowed to vote and comment on the proposals. Of the five, I thought four of them looked nice. Unfortunately, I didn't like the Mint's artwork on the 10th Mountain Division design at all. And judging by the public voting, not many other people liked it either. I recently minted four of the designs I submitted to the Colorado Governor's Office (see below).
Sorry to say, I can! You can bet that none of them will be even half as nice as the Denver Anniversary coins that I got from dcar! They are still the cream of the crop as far as I have been able to find. All that have seen them also agree.:thumb:
