My first Salonina from this mint. A rather different portrait style for this empress. Large diameter but rather thin flan. As usual, post anything you feel is relevant! Cornelia Salonina, Augusta AD 253-268 Roman billon Antoninianus; 2.82 g, 22.1 mm, 5 h Siscia, AD 260-268 Obv: SALONINA AVG, diademed and draped bust right on crescent Rev: CONCORDIA AET, Concordia seated left, holding patera and cornucopiae Refs: RIC --; RCV --; Cohen 28; Göbl 1417.
Man, I have a coin of her but I can't find my pic! I'll stick her in the "reshoot" pile. Here's coin given to me buy a coin buddy of her hubby!
You can see how different the Siscia style is when you compare the portraiture from other mints: Rome: Mediolanum: Antioch:
Here's an interesting factoid. Wildwinds has this listed as RIC 2 var. and shows a photo of the plate coin for Dalheim hoard 12186. So, I can add that as a reference number as well: Mine's not the plate coin, of course, but this was quite a hoard!
I didn't realize I had so many different mints represented in my collection. All I'm missing is the Cyzicus mint. Here's one from the Samosata mint, struck during joint reign of Valerian I and Gallienus: Cornelia Salonina, Augusta AD 253-268 Roman billon Antoninianus; 3.71 g, 19.4 mm, 11 h Samosata, AD 258-260 Obv: CORN SALONINA AVG, Diademed and draped bust right on crescent Rev: CONCORDIA AVGG, Emperor and empress clasping hands Refs: RIC 63; Cohen 31; RCV 10630; Göbl 1691p
