While I didn't rush out and buy the coins when they first appeared, an article a good friend of mine wrote about her, got me thinking about it. Probably, about 95% (just a guess) of Americans wouldn't even have a clue who she was, without the coin being produced. It just shows how our coins can promote learning about history and hopefully get youth of today into collecting and learning about it. I wouldn't have known who she was if I hadn't just watched a movie on the TV about how she helped Lewis and Clark get across the new property that the U.S. had bought from France. I had seen the movie when it first came out in the 50's. If you get a chance to see it, you will enjoy it. After you watch the movie, look up Lewis and Clark. They did a great service to our country.
