I'm looking at my computer desk and see tubes of dimes, Indian heads, Kennedy halves and a tube of Sacagawea unc dollars. Is there any reason not to spend them? I got them directly from the mint. Mike
If they are business strikes, as opposed to the satin finish, and there aren't any that are at least MS68, there is no point holding on to them. Chris
I disagree with the others. If they're direct from the mint, a.k.a. in a mint-wrapped roll, as you state, you could at least sell them. Mint rolls of dollars should bring a premium, as they sell them for a premium from the mint website. EDIT: Reread your post, saw you had them in a tube. If you ripped open the mint roll, they're not really worth a premium anymore.
A few years ago I bought them from the mint. I think they are business strikes but don't remember the details of the purchase. They don't look satin to me. I'm attempting to clean things up some around here. looks like I can frustrate some cashiers with them. edit: yep, I remove them from the mint wraps.
When you said they were in tubes, I wasn't sure if they were culled from Mint Sets or not. That's why I questioned if they were business strikes. Since you said they were from Mint rolls, they are definitely business strikes. Chris
I collect the Sacagewea dollars and I like them. I don't like the date moved to the edge on the later years, but this design is among the best modern coin designs. I only collect them bright and shiny gem BU, however. I've actually never encountered toned, circulated examples, which is telling, eh?
I was lucky enough to get 10 2001-D mint rolls from the bank. Apparently, some guy brought them in to cash out. They are actual mint rolls and not bank rolls. I just put them up for sale on ebay.
