Hi, I have purchased 2 coins recently. Any ideas what they REALLY worth?
How reliable is PCGS price guide? Thank you for help.

    Coins are as follows:
    1. 1$ 2000-S Sacagawea PR70 DCAM graded by ICG
    2. 1 cent 1954-D Lincoln MS67 RD graded by ICG

PCGS gives $3,500 combined. Unreal prices...

If both coins were actually graded by PCGS, then the PCGS price guide would be applicable, but since both are not, that particular price guide is not applicable.

ICG has a habit of grading ultra-moderns very loosely meaning that there are a ton of PF70's for that coin in ICG plastic compared to the much stricter grading of ultra-moderns at PCGS.

As for the Lincoln Cent, that grade may be correct as ICG is one of the strictest TPG's on older coins. If it is a 7 it is probably worth having it crossed to PCGS plastic, since it would demand a much higher price in a PCGS slab.

I disagree with that 100%--PCGS price guide is never good to go by...even if the coin is graded by PCGS....

look at some auction that have ended on ebay or such for the SAME coins you have...that would be the BEST price guide.

The cent is worth about $30 - $35 - the dollar about $25.

Now THAT I disagree with 100%. I expect that it is right sometimes even if it is routinely overpriced.

And yes, I did forget the word "more" in my sentance. It should have read, "...would make the PCGS price guide more applicable."

    I stand corrected.

Well...I have never seen or heard of a time when PCGS price guide was right...
As you can see from the values that GDJMSP gave...the $3,500 was wayyyyy out of line...I don't see how that could ever be called applicable or sometimes applicable...I'm not saying your wrong all the way...I just don't agree ;)

I paid about $11 for my 2000 PF Sac...

    Prepare to be amazed Spencer...

The PCGS price guide lists the 1910S Brown Lincoln Cent in "EF" as being worth $30.

The Heritage price guide lists it at XF45 as being $23-$31, close enough, so I started looking at eBay closed listings.

    Here a 10S in F (tops) sold for $56.

Here an XF coin (mislabelled as AU) sold for $48.50.

Here is a XF coin (by description only) that sold for $37.

This is a VF coin (mislabelled XF/AU) that didn't sell for $24.

This XF coin (Called AU50) sold for $47.

Finally, this VF coin (listed as an XF45) sold for $23.

I am satisfied that the PCGS price guide is correct in its price for this one coin. That means that your blanket statement about "it is NEVER right" is false. I strongly agree that the PCGS price guide is routinely overpriced, especially for the MS 65+ grades, but my point about that price guide being most applicable to PCGS graded coins is valid, too. That guide is overpriced, but so are PCGS coins.

I am 100% amazed....now I have heard for the first time that it was right...
I went myself and looked at the 1999 Silver PF Sets...$455--I think that is about a $100 over what they are selling for right now.

So I agree...my statement was false...but part of my statement was true
I would much reather go by a price guide that I know to be 100% true---online auctions...that way we know for a fact what people are paying for that coin!

(speedy) I have been looking at prices for the 99 sil pr set, and 450 sounds about right. I have checked dozens of coin dealers and online dealers. The cheapest being 450 dollars , the highest 500 dollars. Dealers are paying about 420- 430 to buy this set. If you know of anyone selling this set for 350 , let me know. I actually think it is way over priced.

Well I haven't bee pricing them but I saw the other day a guy saying that they were going for $350--if I can find out where he had them I'll let you know...the last I saw them selling for was near $325--

I for one don't think the 99 PF set should be going for what it is...I think its all HYPE...but I'm not the market...just a collector.
