I'm currently fantasizing about getting a 1793 Wreath Cent in Fr condition for $200 or less. I currently have high bid with 5 days left.

How long do you think that will hold? I'm guessing, not too long.

This economy is double minded. Lot's of early copper coins are now on the market, but most are still priced higher than two years ago when the market demand peaked. Classic economics would make one think the price would begin to decline.

Depends on the surface quality, but I'd guess you have between little and no chance of winning a wreath cent in any condition for less than $200. I hope I'm wrong. :)

I'll answer this one for you. Notice the top right of the E is apart from the chain links. This is diagnostic for Reverse A and is ONLY used on the S-1 Ameri. variety. All other Chains are Reverse C where the top right of the E of ONE is almost touching the chain links. Now you might wonder what happened to Reverse B. It was discovered to be 2 retooled reverse Cs which were altered because the Ameri. was in such great demand by early collectors. Oddly enough, both a 1-C and a 3-C were altered in a similar fashion.

Gotcha - about the only part I can read. I still like Mikes chain cent better.

Another way to tell it is an S-1 is to draw an imaginary line down through the I in AMERICA (which is visible on this coin) On the S-1 it passes through the joint of two links and then into the N of ONE. On the rest of the chain cents the line pass to the right of that joining of the links. A third way comes from studying the shape of the inside of the links in the 12:00 to 3:00 area. On S-1 they are smaller on the side closer to the center, on the others they are of about equal size.

It's tough to get ANY wreath cent for less than $500.

Wow, either I got a really good deal, I need to sell mine, or that price is rather aggressive.

    I suspect the latter. ;)

    I did. I can't remember the discount - but mine was marked 450. Usually I get between 5% to 10% off. :)

I do believe you are correct.

The seller is hoping some rich ignorant schlep will look at a redbook with the low price of $3500 for an AG-3 and not know the difference.

By the way, my $100 Chain just sold for well over $1,000. Even though they had posted the obverse upside down making an almost full, but weak date difficult to see.
