Hello and welcome to round 3 of my contest. These are the people who have made it through! mcarney1173 Lehigh96 Treashunt Duke Kavanaugh abe Great job guys! :thumb: For those of you who are curious, these are the answers I was looking for. (Three main one's total). 1. Since the coin was terribly corroded, it would not "glimmer" in the distance. It was a ground find, so it must of been dirty, dark, etc.... 2. The 1798 Draped Bust Large Cent had more than half a million minted. 3. The variety S-188 does not apply to the 1798 series, only the 1799. Okay, now for Round 3! It's just going to get harder and harder, muhaha! Round 3's Passage: Diary entry #287 Tuesday, February 19th, 1992. Today I got my first foreign coin. My grandfather gave me a ten year old 2 cent piece from England, where he had just visited for 3 months. I've always wanted to go to England, but at the moment we cannot afford it. As I look at the 2 cent piece now, it has really nice details with a ton of luster. But as I look closer, I note some minor scratches on the coin, especially on the crown of Queen Elizabeth and another one going across the 84 of the date. I turn the coin to look at the rim and it has a another scratch going through all six words of the motto. It must of been some sort of intentional damage, since it was pretty deep and going through all around the coin. But no matter how many scratches the coin has, it will always mean a lot to me since my grandfather gave it to me and it will always be something I will remember him by. I can't wait until he goes to England again! I wonder what he'll bring back next time? By the way, no, none of these are true. I just make them up as I go along. ALL answers must be to me by next Monday, the 26th! Thank you and good luck!
PM Sent! Is it really necessary to give 5 contestants a week for round three? I think Friday would be plenty fair.
PM sent Well a week if we dont all respond but if we reply then he could start it sooner I guess...but it has to take some time making these up I'd think!! And wow these are getting hard! Thanks again for the contest.
I am starting to have flashbacks to my battle with Noost. This round was hard, I am not even sure I got it right. I don't know anything about foreign coins.
Did you have a good one with Noost? Well this is my first go at this and you always seem to have pleny of knowledge in the forums so I think I am the underdog...at least the prize is not a toned coin or I'd be doomed G/L Lehigh
You could say that, check out these links to the epic battle. http://www.cointalk.com/t49414/ http://www.cointalk.com/t49899/ http://www.cointalk.com/t50397/ http://www.cointalk.com/t50685/ http://www.cointalk.com/t51259/ and the finally of the contest http://www.cointalk.com/t51541/ FWIW, I consider that by far the most difficult contest ever conducted on Cointalk. This contest is very interesting and I hope I make it past this round. I dont' even know what the prize is. Not as important as the title IMO. Good luck my friend.
well... I wasnt impressed by the toughness until round 4!! Wowzers..got tough there. No offence but I hope you get nocked out before round 4!!
Wow, some interesting results I have... All of you have answered besides mcarney1173, so when he sends in his entry I'll post the next round. And yes, it does take a lot of time to make these up, so if I'm late a day or two, hopefully you'll understand. And I'm glad to hear that you Lehigh thought that my previous contest was one of the hardest! Always a pleasure to do so.
I see some stuff wrong with it but I am out of the contest! Good luck to Everybody!! Awsome contest ryan!!
Did you send mcarney1173 a PM telling him to get his butt in gear. I expect the next round to be extremely difficult if the previous contest is any indicator. And yes, that was a great contest, proud I was the co-winner.
