I bought this note on eBay maybe five years ago. It was advertised as having been issued by the White Russians, who were the imperial loyalists who were fighting the communists. When I was bidding on it, another eBay user sent me an email telling me not to bid on it because it was fake since the czar wasn't around in 1919, but I thought he just didn't know his history so I bid anyway and won it. I have always wondered though if this is real or just something someone made in their basement. Does anyone know anything about this?
Although the Romanov's were murdered in 1918 I believe the civil war raged on till around 1921. So you note is probably OK. I think member Zan, is an expert on these notes. Here is one of mine. Love yours.
After the Revolution of 1917, there was a civil war that was mostly over in 1921, but only completely over in 1925. Up until the defeat of the main armies of the White government in 1921 they issued paper money in several regions with different designs. So this is a legitimate issue of the White government forces.
That's good to know. I like yours too Ripley. I was looking at some on eBay after I posted this and there seem to be a lot of varieties, many of them very neat. Is the serial number on mine 00008? I don't know a lot about currency but I would think that would be a bonus since it's so low.
