I understand the difference between RPM and OMM. I just want some insight on how a OMM is possible. A coin is struck in San Fran. then sent to Denver to be struck again?? Some insight would be greatly appreciated.
Not the coin, the die was first struck with one mintmark and then later a second different one. Coins struck from the die would have the omm. Jim
Until 1993 ALL coining dies were made in Philadelphia at the only die shop the United States Mint had. All mintmarks were added to all the dies in the same facility. Does that make it easier to understand how someone could grab one punch, strike a die, realize it was the wrong letter, then restrike the die with the correct letter trying to hide evidence of the first?
