RPD broken 2 1882 indian head value/grade? all help apprecieted

    It is the variety they claim it to be--the die was dated with a broken 2 punch.
    I would grade it ~VF30. There may be a couple spots of corrosion on the reverse near the shield.

    That's interesting--what year is it? The picture is a little grainy, so I can't tell for sure if this is only on the tops of UNITED (unlike Longacre outlines, which are all around the letters)

    Oh I get it now--you're talking about the same coin--doh! :p

    I am going to say its MD but im not very much of an expert on doubled dies.

    So its a 40-ish dollar coin?

    It takes some experience knowing past sales of particular varieties to establish a ballpark value. Snow gives this variety "3 stars" which he says "A highly sought after variety with a premium between 3X and 5X". The coin is normally ~$15 in this grade, so $40 is probably a good good deal--if those little spots aren't active corrosion. Good luck--you may get it for less! :)
